The shifting morals of Arlen Spector

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Let us go back to 2001. Squishy lefty RINO Arlen Spector condemned Vermont Senator Jim Jefford’s cowardly move to the democrat party. According the the LA Times:

Specter said then- Vermont Sen. Jim Jeffords’ decision to become an independent was disruptive to the functioning of Congress. He proposed a rule forbidding party switches that had the effect of vaulting the minority to majority status in the middle of a congressional session.

“If somebody wants to change parties, they can do that,” Specter said at the time. “But that kind of instability is not good for governance of the country and the Senate.”

Let us also look at Arlen Spector’s own word from earlier this month:

“A vote for Specter is a vote for denying Harry Reid and the Democrats a filibuster-proof Senate.”

The bottom line is that Spector looked at the polls for the Republican Primary in Pennsylvania and saw that he was going to loose big time. Given that Pennsylvania went for our Dear Leader in 2008, and that most of those votes came out of Spector’s base of Philadelphia, he decided that he had a better change of re-election as a democrat in the general election.

Arlen Spector’s party switch isn’t about Republican or democrat policies. It’s all about Arlen Spector.

Update: Spector’s switch isn’t being praised by everybody on the left. Rachel Maddow is now calling him a DINO.

What did Pelosi know and when did she know it?

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

According to the Wall Street Journal,

…members of Congress from both parties have been fully aware of [enhanced interrogation techniques] since the program began in 2002. We believed it was something that had to be done in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks to keep our nation safe. After many long and contentious debates, Congress repeatedly approved and funded this program on a bipartisan basis in both Republican and Democratic Congresses.

By “enhanced interrogation techniques”, the WSJ is referring to techniques that would be considered light hazing in most fraternities and sororities on major college campuses across the country.

Not only has our Dear Leader has, against the advice of the current and four prior CIA directors, told the Islamofascists exactly what to expect once captured, he has also “opened the door to possible prosecution of Justice Department attorneys who provided legal advice” on the hazing techniques used. The WSJ correctly identifies this as “It seems that he has capitulated to left-wing groups and some in Congress who are demanding show trials over this program.”

Now in the cooperative spirit of bi-partisanship that our Dear Leader talks so much about, any such investigations should a deep probe into the Congressional leaders who approved of the program, including Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. If Pelosi, Reid, and other key democrat congressional leaders are not included and prosecuted with the same vigor as any Justice Department staffers, Republican members of Congress, or former members of the GWB administration, then it will be clearly visible to citizens of the United States that the extremist left is engaging in a purely partisan Witch Hunt.

Update: To no rational thinking adults surprise, democrat “leader” Pelosi has flat out lied about her prior knowledge.

BHO’s slap in the face to America

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Hundreds of thousands of Americans protested against massive government spending and the crushing federal debt, and our Dear Leader responded by getting his entire cabinet to cut about half of what BHO spend on his inauguration.

Let’s put this in perspective. This is the equivalent of a family with an annual income of $60,000 cutting $6 out of their budget.

The Spin Meter points out a few examples of just how small the President’s gesture is:

$100 million amounts to:

–Less than one-quarter of the budget increase that Congress awarded to itself.

–Less than half the cost of one F-22 fighter plane.

–7 percent of the federal subsidy for the money-losing Amtrak passenger rail system.

–1/10,000th of the government’s operating budgets for Cabinet agencies, excluding the Iraq and Afghan wars and the stimulus bill.

Oh, and if you thought he was asking for new cuts, guess again.

Many of the savings he asked them to achieve are already under way and are included in the calculation.

So what we have is an empty promise and a massive government spending spree, unparalleled in American History, and a crushing debt our grandchildren will still be paying off.

Is this the “Hope & Change” you were expecting?

Update: While our Dear Leader makes empty gestures at “cutting costs”, he’s printing up more money to spend outside the US. In this case $100 Billion for the International Monetary Fund. You remember the IMF, that’s the organization that reimbursed tax cheat and Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner for taxes he never planned on paying.

Prof. Reynolds was right

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Back on June 7, 2008, law professor Glenn Reynolds (better known as Instapundit) posted the following:

I can think of no better reason to vote against Obama than the prospect of an administration where any criticism of the President is treated as racism.

Well folks, as it has been shown before, he was bloody well right.
The extremist far left has their spokeskook, Garofalo, on MSNBC with Olbermann spouting their nonsense.

The rational thought content in her rant is stuck at zero. This is pure leftism, no logic, no facts, just raw hate.

Friday, April 17th, 2009

As a public service, I’m providing translations for some of our Dear Leader‘s “code words” into English.

“Overseas Contingency Operations” is Obamaspeak for the Global War on Islamofascism.

“Man-caused disasters” is Obamaspeak for Islamic Terrorism.

“Secretary of the Treasury” is Obamaspeak for Tax Cheat.

“Rightwing Extremist” is Obamaspeak for Veterans of the United States Military

“Hope & Change” does not include tolerance.

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

It seems that tolerance, as well as diversity, is not included in the set of “Hope & Change.”

Since Arizona State University made the rational and well thought out decision not grant our Dear Leader an honorary degree because of his overall lack of experience in just about anything, the radical extremist far left that makes up the most rabid of Team Lightbringer’s supporters have reacted true to form.

ASU dared to defy their leftist deity, so they want the heretics burned. I’m not kidding. There have been actual death threats from the “open minded and tolerant” left.

Laurie Chassin co-chairs the ASU Honorary Degree Committee along with Christine Wilkinson, but she is on sabbatical this year and is not involved in this year’s evaluations. According to a source within the administration, she reportedly received death threats after this story hit national news on Thursday. An ASU spokesperson said they started receiving hate-email within minutes after the story was published on Huffington Post.

The President’s friend and advisor, the terrorist William Ayers should be proud.

I Question the numbers

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

The city of Detroit, Michigan has more registered voters than residents over the age of 18.

Detroit election officials confirmed Monday what an analysis of census and population records shows: The city has more registered voters than it has residents over the voting age of 18.

He estimates that Detroit’s population is about 853,000, which includes 603,000 people over 18 — 30,000 fewer than the city reported as its total of registered voters.

“Even if you had 100% voter registration, which we know we don’t have, you could not have numbers that high,” he said. “Nationally, 67.6% of Americans are registered to vote. For African Americans, it’s 60.9%.”

No surprise, but the voting record in Detroit trends about 95% democrat. This is smelling like ACORN corruption.

Well, we got some change…

Monday, April 6th, 2009

Our Dear Leader did bring us “Hope & Change.” I’m hoping for a return to sanity in the 2010 elections and in two months, Americans are now more divided politically than ever.

That’s change we can believe in!

The Corruption keeps rolling along

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

Corrupt democrat Congressman John Murtha is continuing his pattern of pork barrel spending.

Four of the earmark requests from Murtha’s office are for current or former clients of a lobbying firm, the PMA Group, that is currently under federal investigation for connection to possible “straw” donations to Murtha and other Democratic members of the House.

Murtha also has not yet apologized to the cleared US Marines he insulted.

Control of the Banks

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

As Stuart Varney points out in this Wall Street Journal article, control of the banks is clearly the goal of our Dear Leader‘s administration.

The government wants to control the banks, just as it now controls GM and Chrysler, and will surely control the health industry in the not-too-distant future. Keeping them TARP-stuffed is the key to control. And for this intensely political president, mere influence is not enough. The White House wants to tell ’em what to do. Control. Direct. Command.

If the banks are forced to keep TARP cash — which was often forced on them in the first place — the Obama team can work its will on the financial system to unprecedented degree. That’s what’s happening right now.

Fast forward to today, and that same bank is begging to give the money back. The chairman offers to write a check, now, with interest. He’s been sitting on the cash for months and has felt the dead hand of government threatening to run his business and dictate pay scales. He sees the writing on the wall and he wants out. But the Obama team says no, since unlike the smaller banks that gave their TARP money back, this bank is far more prominent. The bank has also been threatened with “adverse” consequences if its chairman persists. That’s politics talking, not economics.

The clear goal here is not economic recovery, it is to use the power of the federal executive branch to bully private business to rewarding the President’s friends and punish his political enemies.

Welcome to the Third World folks.
