Unemployment numbers snark

Saturday, June 4th, 2011

Andy has some prime snark going on over at AoSHQ.  Here is money quote:

I’ll limit this quickie post to that nasty 3-letter word: J-O-B-S. Today’s unemployment report showed that we, Unexpectedly™, added only 54,000 jobs in May and the unemployment rate shot back up to 9.1%. Backing out the 62,000 jobs added by McDonald’s leaves … a one-term president.

Additionally, coblogger emeritus Geoff pointed out that we’ve shed 430,000 full-time jobs in the last couple of months and are now back where we began the year. It’s as if the entire population of Reno cried out in terror and was suddenly silenced given a pink slip.

Share and enjoy…

Quote of the Day

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

We have an election coming up. We also have $5/gallon gasoline and $5/loaf bread coming up. I do not expect the real unemployment rate to fall, although there will be frantic attempts to make it look lower, largely through statistical manipulations based on the definition of unemployment: if you’re not looking for work, you aren’t unemployed even if you have no job and never again expect to find one. As more give up looking, the unemployment rate goes down. And since the unions do not intend to lower their wages and perks, and the states are out of money, there will be “furloughs” among public employees including teachers. You can manipulate those numbers so the “furloughed” are not unemployed. It promises to be an interesting summer, but it will end with $5/gallon gasoline and $5/loaf bread. Look for the price of a can of beans to get higher. Look for the price of Top Ramen to rise…

This will continue so long as the current economic and foreign policies continue.

Dr. Jerry Pournelle

A realistic look at the unemployment rate under Obama

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Victor Davis Hanson points out some important facts:

One of the oddest things is President Obama’s continuing surprise at the rising unemployment rate. Indeed, we now have a new Orwellianism of “jobs saved”: as jobs are lost, we are told that some of those who do have them were “saved” by President Obama (note the logic: you ignore the stats that quantify reality, but hype fantasy).

If you were a contractor, a car dealer, a dentist, or an accountant, and if you heard that we may/will/sorta raise federal income taxes, lift the tax caps off FICA, think about a VAT tax, impose a health care surcharge on the “wealthy”, have new mandatory fees for forced medical plans and green energy, and had you just got hit with new raised sales and state income taxes, why would you be secure about the future and gamble on it by hiring more employees.

The evidence that the Obama White House is completely making up the jobs “saved or created” numbers is pretty clear. It is also very clear that it was their intention from the beginning.

Mean while, in California, state regulations kill 3.8 Million jobs

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Yup, burdensome and excessive state regulations have cost the California economy 3.8 million jobs in the small business  market.

That’s right folks, the small businesses that employ most of the people. The small businesses that are competely unrepresented on our Dear Leader‘s so-called “economic team.”

This helps explains California’s current unemployment rate of 12.2%.

This is the result of the far left policies of the California legislature. If it wasn’t for the Governator acting as a rational brake on their policies, California would be flirting with Michigan’s 15.2% unemployment rate.

Unemployment is on the rise again

Friday, September 4th, 2009

The Obama Economy is operating as predicted, with employment hitting a 26 year high of 9.7%.

Let us review what our Dear Lader and the congressional democrats told us when they rammed the porkulus bill down America’s throat.  If the massive spending program (that doesn’t even start to spend two thirds of the money until after 2010) wasn’t passed, unemployment would hit 9% and if it was passed, it wouldn’t go over 8%.

Geoff has a nice chart that compares the Team Lightbringer fantasy with reality.  Let me sum up the chart for you, the so called democrat “leadership” who came up with that Charlie Foxtrot are either incompetent or liars.  Either one of those solutions is not very comforting to the American people.

The Biden Effect

Monday, July 20th, 2009

We all know what the “Gore Effect” is. Whenever ManBearPig goes to speak about “Global Warming”, the temperature plummets.

Now we have the Biden Effect. ever our Dear Leader‘s Vice-President shows up to lie to the American People about how well the democrat‘s Porkulus bill is doing, unemployment shoots up in that area.
