Friday B-Movie Pick: The Flashpoint Paradox
Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox
One of my kids told me about this one. A deliciously dark alternate history story that starts with a good deed. Events ripple out from that change up and down the timestream and the Flash ends up in a rather nasty universe. One of the best parts was the effect on the Wayne family. In this timeline, it’s Bruce who is killed, not his parents. Thomas Wayne becomes a very dark and deadly Batman and the shock turns Martha Wayne into the Joker, his arch nemesis. The Flash works to find the cause of the timeline change and set things right. It’s hard road, but the Speedster is ready to run it.

Kudos to CSPAN and YouTube, which brings us the words of Senate democrat “leader” Harry Reid from 2006.
Yup, Harry Reid is calling raising the federal limit to $ 9 trillion is the last thing we should do, because it will weaken the country, and hurt the economy.
Was Harry Reid telling the truth or engaging in hyper-partisan political demagoguery because there was a Republican in the White House at the time. Given his record, if Harry Reid was telling the truth, it was purely by accident.
Quote of the Day

“Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here.” Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.”
To be fair, that was what he said back in 2006, when he was a Senator from a fly over state with less than one year on the job. Perhaps he was just dangerously incompetent. On the other hand, there was a Republican in the White House back then, so perhaps he was just being the hyper-partisan political demagogue that he has proved himself to be time and time again. On the gripping hand, it probably is both.
The Washington Post had an article that brought up this quote in the context of the current debt limit debate. It said that Obama’s rhetoric then would be considered “a bit Tea Partyish” today. Spin the standard media bias out of that statement, and it is more than a “a bit.” The article also gives Obama an upside down Pinocchio for his current stance. In their rating scale, that is “A statement that represents a clear but unacknowledged “flip-flop” from a previously-held position.”
Monday Book Pick: The Evil in Pemberley House
The Evil in Pemberley House by Philip Jose Farmer and Win Scott Eckert
Win Scott Eckert finishes an unpublished Farmer novel set deep in Farmer’s Wold Newton settings. Half the fun of this book is spotting all the references. Some are obvious, others require a Farmerphile, such as myself, to spot. Overall, a nice bit of pulp set in the early 70s. Patricia Clarke Wildman, the daughter of the Pulp Hero known as “Doc Savage”, is in a rough emotional spot, after the death of her parents, and her recent husband. Then she discovers that she is inheriting an English estate, made famous in the Jane Austin novel, “Pride and Prejudice.” Of course there is a ghost involved, and some shady characters among the living up to no good. With only minor spoilers, let me say that good mystery and spot of adventure is just what Patricia needed to get her out of her funk. She is her father’s daughter after all. Mild warning about the sex scenes. Very risque by 1970’s standards, but not so much today. Milder than what you would find in John Ringo’s Ghost series. A good read for the Farmer fan, but perhaps a bit too much ‘inside baseball’ references for someone not familiar with Farmer’s body of work.
The left’s latest spin
A friend of mine recently asked me about the “Republican’s political suicide.” I’m betting he heard that from his moonbat ex-wife.
A quick Google search of “republican political suicide” shows all the buzz is coming from the extreme wacko left. Mother Jones News, Andrew Sullivan and far left wing extremists columnists in the Washington Post.
Sounds more like wishful thinking than thoughtful political analysis.
Those left wing extremists are fear mongering because they are so scared they are soiling their linens.
What is happening with the minority party standing up to the Imperial Obama Presidency, is that they are firing up their base. Something they have been really, really bad at for the past few elections. Obama won on low Republican/Conservative base voter turnout, while he was firing up his base hotter than the Devil’s Wedding Tackle.
The democrats have a real problem in 2016, and that is Obama. He has turned the Presidency into his personal brand, not the brand of the democrat party.
Biden is an idiot, Hillary is seen as damaged goods, and is already being attacked by democrats and news organizations run for the advancement of the democrat party.
So who are they going to run?
Add to the left’s fear multiple conservative members of Congress who are extremely popular with their base. Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, etc. Don’t forget former Rep and Ret. Lt. Colonel Allan West. A conservative that the left singled out for attack based on the democrats’ racist policies.
Double Quote of the Day

“Remember: The people telling you a government shutdown is a disaster are the same ones who told you 3 weeks ago that we had to invade Syria.”
“It’s like Nancy Pelosi said, you have to shut down the government to find out what’s in it.”

WORDS MATTER: Original Obama Un-narrated Documentary/Review (in his own words)
Kickstarter fraud
Let me start by saying I’ve had some excellent experiences with Kickstarter projects. The Traveller 5 project, Schlock Mercenary Challenge Coins,
The Chapin Sisters: A DATE WITH THE EVERLY BROTHERS, and the Tactical Pen, just to name a few.
There has been noticeable failure. The Founders Playing Cards project. A beautifully designed set of playing cards that use the images of historical American political figures. The project was created by one ‘John Slabyk.’ He claimed to have worked on the team that created the iconic Obama icon. Say what you want about Obama’s politics, but the branding is impressive.
One small flaw in the plan. After collecting over $37,000 from approximately 1,000 backers, ‘John Slabyk’ dropped out of sight. Just two posts, with no followups, no indication of the cards being manufactured, or any sign that ‘John Slabyk’ even plans on having them made. The backers are not happy. Legal action has been discussed.
If anybody knows this ‘John Slabyk’, ask him what he has done with the $37,000 of his backers’ money.
Update: Here is another article detailing John M (Markian) Slabyk‘s fraud: obama logo designer John Slabyk defrauds Kickstarter backers of over $37,000?
Update: Another references for Slabyk’s fraud.
Update: Yet another post of John Slabyk’s fraud. This one mentions that he claims to be the head of the Obama campaign art department and advises you to contact the NY State AG’s office concerning Internet fraud if you have been scammed by John Slabyk.
Monday Book Pick: Fire With Fire
Fire With Fire by Charles E. Gannon
A near future SciFi adventure that reminds me favorably of Dr. Pournelle’s Future History stories. Smart characters, deep secrets nested inside other secrets, action, aliens, and more action. It sets the stage for multiple sequels, which is a good thing.
Monday Round Up

In the poster city for long term democrat reign, Detroit residents complain that packs of dogs terrorize citizens subjects.
Far left extremist moonbat Nancy Pelosi, the so-called “Leader” of the House democrats, claims there is nothing left to cut from the federal budget.
First off, there hasn’t been a federal budget passed since George W. Bush was President. Second, she’s an idiot. Let’s start a short list of stuff and can be easily cut and will benefit the American taxpayer.
- The $2.2 billion Obamaphone program
- Supplying arms and funding to known terrorist groups in Syria
- The Department of Education
- Obamacare
- Fraud and Waste in the federal food stamps program
- Most, if not all, of the Department of Labor
The IRS really did have a ‘hit list’ that targeted conservative groups. This can count as our Dear Leader keeping at least one of his promises.
File under: There is nothing quite as intolerant and closed minded as a “tolerant and open minded liberal.”
Violent online game lets players murder NRA officials by shooting them. It’s all the rage with the peace loving left who want to take firearms from the law abiding by force.
