Quote of the Day

Sunday, January 27th, 2013

“Assault weapons… are a new topic. The weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over fully-automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons — anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun — can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons.”

Dr. Rice gives an important history lesson

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

Originally posted on my old blog back in May 2005, but certainly worth the repost.   This quote is from the Washington Times Inside Politics column from May 12, 2005.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice recalled last night for CNN how her father took up arms to defend fellow blacks from racist whites in the segregated South and said the constitutional right to keep and bear arms is as important as free speech and religion.
In an interview on CNN’s “Larry King Live,” Miss Rice said that her minister father and his friends armed themselves to defend the black community in Birmingham, Ala., against nightriders in 1962 and 1963.
She said that if local authorities in segregated Birmingham, where Miss Rice was born in 1954, had lists of registered weapons, she did not think her father and other blacks would have been able to defend themselves.
Miss Rice said, “We have to be very careful when we start abridging rights that the Founding Fathers thought very important.”
She said they understood “there might be circumstances that people like my father experienced in Birmingham, Alabama, when, in fact, the police weren’t going to protect you.”
“I also don’t think we get to pick and choose from the Constitution,” she said in the interview, which was taped for airing last night. “The Second Amendment is as important as the First Amendment.”

This is history that most so called “liberals” don’t want taught in government run public schools. It gives the wrong message, i.e. that the government can’t solve every one of your problems and should.

Why are liberals so bad at history?

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Current case in point, Elena Kagan, whom our Dear leader wants to put on the Supreme Court.  In digging through what little paper trail she has generated, National Review has discovered that Ms. Kagan has compared the NRA to the KKK.

Let us review the basic history here, which Ms. Kagan is clearly unware of.

The National Rifle Association was formed after the Civil War by former Union Army officers to promote marksmanship.

The KKK was formed after the Civil War by former Confederate Army personnel to express their displeasure at people they still considered property conducting themselves as free citizens of the Republic.

One way the KKK expressed their displeasure was by murdering these new citizens of the Repubic.

Their victims reacted in a logical manner in a free society, they exercised their Constitutional protected rights to Keep and Bear Arms and defended themselves against the murderous thugs of the KKK.  The KKK didn’t like their victims to be able to shoot back, so they contacted their friends in the state legislatures to pass the very first “gun control” laws in the United States of America.

That’s right folks, the first so-called “gun control” laws were passed to protect the members of the KKK from the newly freed slaves they wanted to murder. The history of one of the left’s major policies, so-called “gun control” laws, is the history of violent racism in the United States.

So, either Ms. Kagan is woefully ignorant of American History, or she is deliberately ignoring  the facts in order to promote a political agenda that runs counter to the Constitution of the United States of America.  Either one is not a good sign in a potential member of the Supreme Court.

Obama is channeling Nixon now.

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

At first our Dear Leader was emulating the worst President of the past 50 years, the overtly racist Jimmy Carter.

Now he is taking a page out of former President Richard M. Nixon’s book of really bad things to do, and starting an “Enemies List” of American journalists.

This action raises this important question, “What does Barack Hussein Obama and his administration have against the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America?”

Let’s review the First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

It is widely excepted that the free speech and press clause is focused on “Political” topics.  The American people have to be able to freely report on and discuss their government and the effects on them, in order to maintain a free society.

Team Lightbringer doesn’t seem to be on board with this concept.  The Obama White House, through it’s official spokesmen, have publicly attacked members of the American News Media, and public figures, who have published stories that the Obama administration doesn’t like.

What happened to the classic liberals who stated, “I do not agree with what you are saying, but I’ll defend your right to say it”?  They seemed to have been replaced with thin skinned leftists who viciously attack anyone who dares to disagree with their agenda.

Jack Tapper, of ABC News seems to be the only member of the White House press corps with a functional set of testicles and an understanding of the US Constitution.

Tapper: It’s escaped none of our notice that the White House has decided in the last few weeks to declare one of our sister organizations “not a news organization” and to tell the rest of us not to treat them like a news organization. Can you explain why it’s appropriate for the White House to decide that a news organization is not one –
(Crosstalk)
Gibbs: Jake, we render, we render an opinion based on some of their coverage and the fairness that, the fairness of that coverage.
Tapper: But that’s a pretty sweeping declaration that they are “not a news organization.” How are they any different from, say –
Gibbs: ABC –
Tapper: ABC. MSNBC. Univision. I mean how are they any different?

What is this White House afraid of?  A news organization that points out that Obama has admitted Communists and supporters of pedophilia  working for him?  Aren’t those actual facts that the American people should be aware of? Doesn’t the American people have a right to know just which health insurance officials are in those secret meetings with Joe Biden?

Just to add to the stench of Obama’s “Enemies List” is the flat out hypocrisy of Team Lightbringer.  The White House talking Head Gibby specifically singled out two of Fox News’ opinion format hosts, Beck and Hannity, as the reason for the Obama White House War on Fox News (which they are spending more time and effort than the war against Islamofascism being fought in Afghanistan) at the same time they are bringing in MSNBC’s hate mongers Olbermann & Maddow, who are clearly lapdogs of the Obama Administration,  in for private briefings.

Just what does Allah have against perky breasts?

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

I’m serious here.  The human female breast, especially perky ones, have to be one of his greatest creations, bar none.

Well, by way of Atlas Shrugged, is this disturbing story about an actual Fatwa against women with perky breasts.

A Somalian Muslim group reportedly has started whipping women in public for wearing bras that violate Islam, the Daily Mail reports.

Residents claim insurgent group Al Shabaab sent gunmen into the streets to round up women who appeared to have a firm bust. The women are inspected to see if their suspected firmness is natural or from a bra. Officials reportedly make the women shake their breasts after removing their bras.

Al Shabaab forced us to wear their type of full veil and now they order us to shake our breasts,” a resident, Halima, told Reuters, adding that her daughters had been whipped on Thursday.

The new bra rule adds to the long list of religious restrictions in Somalia, including a ban on movies, musical cell phone ring tones, dancing at weddings and playing soccer.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for the out cry from leftist so-called “feminists” in the West over this barbaric behavior.

The other nominees…

Monday, October 12th, 2009

There has been a lot of chatter about our Dear Leader winning the Nobel Peace Prize for completing Jack and Squat, including some flat out laughter from George Stephanopoulos, so I’m not going to focus on that.

Instead I want to look at the other people who were in the running for the prize.

Ingrid Betancourt. She was kidnapped by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) on 23 February 2002 and was rescued by Colombian security forces six and a half years later on 2 July 2008. The rescue operation, dubbed Operation Jaque, rescued Betancourt along with 14 other hostages (three Americans and 11 Colombian policemen and soldiers). In all, she was held captive for 2,321 days after being taken while campaigning for the Colombian presidency as a Green. She had decided to campaign in rebel controlled areas despite warnings from the government, police and military not to do so. Her kidnapping received worldwide coverage, particularly in France, because of her dual French citizenship.

Dr. Sima Samar,  she practiced medicine at a government hospital in Kabul, but after a few months was forced to flee for her safety to her native Jaghoori, where she provided medical treatment to patients throughout the remote areas of central Afghanistan.

In 1984, the communist regime arrested her husband, and Samar and her young son fled to the safety of nearby Pakistan. She then worked as a doctor at the refugee branch of the Mission Hospital. Distressed by the total lack of health care facilities for Afghan refugee women, she established in 1989 the Shuhada Organization and Shuhada Clinic in Quetta, Pakistan.

After living in refuge for over a decade, Samar returned to Afghanistan in 2002 to assume a cabinet post in the Afghan Transitional Administration. In the interim government, she served as Deputy President and then as Minister for Women’s Affairs. She was forced into resignation from her post after she was threatened with death and harassed for questioning conservative Islamic laws, especially sharia law, during an interview in Canada with a Persian-language newspaper. During the 2003 Loya Jirga, several religious conservatives took out an ad in a local newspaper calling Samar the Salman Rushdie of Afghanistan.

Dr. Samar publicly refuses to accept that women must be kept in purdah(secluded from the public) and speaks out against the wearing of the burqa(head-to-foot wrap), which was enforced first by the fundamentalist mujahideen and then by the Taliban. She also has drawn attention to the fact that many women in Afghanistan suffer from osteomalacia, a softening of the bones, due to an inadequate diet. Wearing the burqa reduces exposure to sunlight and aggravates the situation for women suffering from osteomalacia.

Hu Jia is an activist and dissident in the People’s Republic of China. His work has focused on the Chinese democracy movement, Chinese environmentalist movement, and HIV/AIDS in the People’s Republic of China. Hu is the director of June Fourth Heritage & Culture Association, and he has been involved with AIDS advocacy as the executive director of the Beijing Aizhixing Institute of Health Education.

Thich Quang Do: He has spent his entire life fighting for freedom of religion in Vietnam.  He has spent the past thirty years being exiled, imprisoned, and persecuted.

HT to The Daily Fiona for the list.

The Obama Justice Department’s disturbing record on Civil Rights

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

The Justice Department dismissed the lawsuit against several members of the New Black Panther Party in what appears to be a clear case of voter intimidation in Philadelphia during the 2008 election.

Just in case you missed this one, here is a video replay.

Ms. Malkin has a followup post on the subject with links to Election Journal and the Washington Times.

If this is what we can expect from the Obama administration in the way the Justice Department handles Civil Rights cases, it is only going to get uglier. Seriously ugly, like Janet Reno ugly.
