Communist China hacks the US government

CYBER WAR PEARL HARBOR: OBAMA ADMINISTRATION’S EXCUSES AND LIES ABOUT OPM HACK MELT AWAY

In case you missed extensive main stream media coverage of this story, here is a quick summary: “…the personal data of some four million federal employees who sought security clearances over the past 30 years had been compromised. Now the president of the American Federation of Government Employees, J. David Cox, has informed OPM in a letter that his organization believes “the Central Personnel Data File was the targeted database, and that the hackers are now in possession of all personnel data for every federal employee, every federal retiree, and up to one million former federal employees.””

In other words, the US got pwoned by hackers in the employ of the Communist Chinese government.

The United States is loosing the Cyberwar big time and our Dear Leader really doesn’t seem to care.

Update: The number of Americans who had their personal information stolen from the OPM now at 25.7 million.

Another reason to not spend time on Facebook

Leo Leporte reports that Facebook has added a new “Feature”.  Automatically uploading your mobile device photos to Facebook.

That’s right, all your photos, straight to Facebook.

If you were paying attention to the “user agreement”, Facebook reserves the right to use everything you load on it, including pictures, anyway they see fit.

That Facebook gets the right to use your stuff is nothing new.  Been that way since just about Day One, if not before.

Here is a basic rule of the Internet you Coppertops need to understand.

If you aren’t paying for the service, you are the product.

I’m not a big user, but I’d have to say the worst thing about Facebook is all the damn “Mafia Wars” spam that floods your newsfeed.

Now the crap is starting to invade Twitter too.

An alternative to coffeeshops for “freelancers”

There has been a fair amount of whining over this Wall Street Journal story about coffee houses rousing deadbeats taking up space that paying customers could be in.

What started as a good practice to bring in customers, providing free WiFi access to the Internet, has been abused by freeloaders and deadbeats, causing coffeeshops to start denying power for laptops and declaring laptop free hours.

Thanks for ruining it for the rest of us you deadbeats.  If you are going to take up space in a place of business, like a coffee shop, how about patronizing the business?   One cup of drip coffee, which you leave untouched as you sit for hours on end, taking advantage of the free WiFi, does not count as patronizing the business.  Buy a couple of bagels at least!

Here is something these so called “freelancers” (i.e. deadbeats) can do instead of whining about their “careers” are coming to an end, visit your local public library.  Odds are that there is free Internet access there.   It may not be as “hip” as freeloading at the local coffeeshop, but are you interested in getting your work done, or merely projecting the image of being productive when you are actually just hanging out?

Yahoo for the Epic Customer Service Fail!

I get an email from Yahoo stating that the domain registration fee for the one domain I have with them has jumped to an absurd $34.95 and that my domain will automatically renewed at that customer gouging price automatically in three days.

So I immediately start the process to transfer the domain. During that process, the Yahoo site describing it says that Yahoo may take up to nine days to acknowledge a domain transfer request.

The crystal clear conclusion here is that Yahoo hates its customers, which has been pretty clear since their other epic failure their takeover and mutilation of webring.org. They screwed that pooch so hard they ended up selling it at a big loss.

Update: I’m not the only one noticing Yahoo’s “Bait and Switch” tactics on domain registration, Elliot C. Back is justifiably pissed off too, as is YahooBullshit. CNet covers this rip off by Yahoo as well.
