There is so much wrong with this, which is what makes it awesome.

Doctor Who: Genesis of the Daleks

Reaching back to 1975, we find this classic from the Tom Baker, the 4th Doctor, era. The Time Lords send the Doctor, Sarah and Harry back to the creation of the Doctor’s greatest enemy, the Daleks! It has that low budget mid 70s BBC look, but carries it off well. If you only know the new Doctor series (Numbers 9, 10 and 11), check this out.

Monday Book Pick: The Monster in the Mist

The Monster in the Mist (A Chronological Man Adventure) by Andrew Mayne

Executive Summary: Steampunk version of Doctor Who, with a bit of other pulp references tossed in. I give it a thumbs up for being a fun read and definately worth the $0.99 for the ebook download. It’s the first in a series, with the second book also out in the wild. The hero is clearly based on the 11th Doctor, who only travels forward in time. He spends long periods in storage beneath a building he owns in Boston, coming out only when the clockwork computer that monitors events decides that there is something worth cracking him out of cold storage. This time, it is a rash of disapperances in the fog that brings him out in 1890. He even has a companion. A young woman who maintains the office and keeps up on current events. The hero Smith, just Smith, also has a warehouse of gadgets that would make Doc Savage proud, but he won’t show up for a few more decades.

Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol

I’m a Doctor Who fan going back to the early 80’s when I was watching the Tom Baker episodes on the local Community College public access channel. The new series does Christmas specials every year, and I have to say, IMNSHO, that this is the best Doctor Who Christmas special yet. They set the bar very high with this one.

This is my second “Christmas Carol” pick.

Three interesting bits of SciFi

Ok, one is Pulp, so call it two and half.

First, Matt Smith is coming back for 13 new episodes of Doctor Who, which, like bow ties, is cool.  Not so sure about the Fez though.  Johnny Johnny can pull it off, but I think River and Amy had the right idea.

Joe Haldeman’s The Forever War is coming to the screen, and it’s being done by Ridley Scott and David Webb Peoples.  Those are the fellows who brought you Bladerunner.

The juicy pulp rumor is that Quentin Tarantino is working on a Shadow movie, which would be cooler than bow ties.

Quick SciFi update

I watched the first episode of the forth season of Heroes. Frankly it didn’t leave me with a strong desire to watch anymore.

I’d rather see new episodes of Warehouse 13 or the up coming season of Doctor Who. Reruns of Brisco County, Jr. would be probably be better.
