Monday Book Pick: Fuzzy Nation
Fuzzy Nation by John Scalzi
When I first heard that John Scalzi wanted to do a reboot of H. Beam Piper‘s “Little Fuzzy“, it made my Sunday SciFi pick for 4/11/10. It’s out now, and I’ve read it (thanks Fred!), and I have to say it’s pretty damn good. Piper purists may yelp because there is no contra-grav, but it’s a bloody reboot! Expect change and embrace it. Scalzi clearly has serious SciFi author chops. He wouldn’t be my first choice for a reboot of Space Viking or Uller Uprising, but the Fuzzy books, sure. My top choice for Space Viking would be David Weber, and John Ringo for Uller Uprising.
Nice Product Placement
Damon has a copy of Michael Z. Williamson‘s new book, Rogue, on the couch.

Debunking 9/11 Myths: Why Conspiracy Theories Can’t Stand Up to the Facts by David Dunbar, Brad Reagan and James B. Meiqs
Here is the day after September 11 special edition Monday Book Pick. The kryptonite of those Troofer idiots, actual facts and rational thought.
Sunday SciFi: Classic Star Wars Poster
Ah yes, the original 1977 Star Wars, not episode IV, not “A New Hope”, just a low budget SciFi film with a bunch of relatively unknown actors as stars and a director who’s last movie was about hot rods in the early sixties. The version where Han shot first because he was a rogue, a smuggler, one who operated outside the law.
Star Wars was a B movie, complete with the Wilhelm scream, and we loved it.
Three years of Obama “promises” on jobs
Perhaps the majority of those who have opposed our Dear Leader since he first appeared on the national scene are right, he is dangerously incompetent, and is completely lacking in any private sector experience.
AP fact checks Obama’s speech and finds it comes up short on actual facts
Filed under: economy, Obama Economy, Our Dear Leader, Politics
Here is the fact checking article in full. I’ll just list some of the highlights
Essentially, the jobs plan is an IOU from a president and lawmakers who may not even be in office down the road when the bills come due. Today’s Congress cannot bind a later one for future spending. A future Congress could simply reverse it.
THE FACTS: It’s hard to see how the program would not raise the deficit over the next year or two because most of the envisioned spending cuts and tax increases are designed to come later rather than now, when they could jeopardize the fragile recovery.
THE FACTS: Not all of the president’s major proposals are likely to yield quick job growth if adopted. One is to set up a national infrastructure bank to raise private capital for roads, rail, bridges, airports and waterways. Even supporters of such a bank doubt it could have much impact on jobs in the next two years because it takes time to set up.
Bottom line, our Dear Leader asked for more of his failed policies. More and more of the American people, especially registered voters, are seeing the truth behind his rhetoric.
FBI arrests prominent Democratic campaign Treasurer
Kinde Durkee of Burbank-based Durkee and Associates, was arrested by the FBI on a criminal complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Sacramento. Special Agent Steve Dupre of the bureau’s Sacramento office said she was arrested in connection with her position as a campaign treasurer.
Monday Book Pick: The Chinatown Death Cloud Peril
The Chinatown Death Cloud Peril by Paul Malmont
The book is crack for pulp fans. Really, I’m not kidding. The heroes include Lester and Norma Dent, Walter Gibson, L. Ron Hubbard, Robert Heinlein and a merchant ship working cowboy who goes by “Lew” (Louis L’Amour I’m betting, perhaps Malmont couldn’t get his estate to release the use of his name). Additional appearances by H.P. Lovecraft and E.E. “Doc” Smith. It’s pulp writing, done by someone who loves pulp and wrote a big, wet, sloppy kiss to pulp.
Sunday SciFi: Castle/Firefly Crossover
Yup, that is Molly Quinn, who plays Alexis Castle, dressed up as Mal Reynolds, Nathan Fillion’s character on Firefly.
Follow the Money! Algore edition
Yes, another installment in our Follow the Money series!
This time it’s Algore at the end of the money trail! Investors Business Daily reports:
No one has made more money from climate change hype than Gore. According to the U.K.’s Guardian newspaper, just one of the “green” companies in which Gore has invested has received over half a billion dollars in subsidies from the Energy Department.
Yup, the same Algore who made piles and piles of money selling so called “carbon credits” by telling people that the oceans were going to rise within the next few years and flood the coasts, then bought a giant, energy consuming mansion on the southern California coast line.
