{"id":3210,"date":"2012-03-11T11:51:00","date_gmt":"2012-03-11T15:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.urbin.net\/blog\/?p=3210"},"modified":"2012-03-11T11:51:00","modified_gmt":"2012-03-11T15:51:00","slug":"sunday-scifi-john-carter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/urbin.net\/blog\/movies\/sunday-scifi-john-carter\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunday SciFi: John Carter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saw\u00a0<strong>John Carter<\/strong>\u00a0last night, in 3D on an IMax screen.<\/p>\n<p>Excellent adventure flick by one of the early masters of the genre, Edgar Rice Burroughs. \u00a0It was based on the first of the John Carter of Mars books, A Princess of Mars. \u00a0It was written 95 years ago (1917), so it\u2019s in the public domain. \u00a0You can download it from the Gutenberg site or get the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B002RKSDS2\/eclipsswebwarren\">Kindle version for free<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The show was completely sold out and the audience was a mix of young and old, including a lot of families. \u00a0Glad I saw on the big screen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update<\/strong>: E<a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2012\/03\/11\/film-review-john-carter\/\">d Morrissey reviewed <strong>John Carter<\/strong> and gave it a thumbs up as well.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>John Carter<\/em>\u00a0has plenty of surprises and edge-of-the-seat action all the way to the very end.\u00a0 It won\u2019t win a nomination for Best Picture, but as a fun adventure and popcorn movie, it\u2019s terrific and smarter than most, especially this time of year.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be surprised at the end if you\u2019d like another trip to Mars very soon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>John Carter\u00a0<\/em>is rated PG-13, with a lot of violence, some of it quite bloody (even if the blood might be another color at times) and very intense.\u00a0 It has no foul language or nudity \u2014 a few skimpy outfits for Collins, but nothing one wouldn\u2019t have seen on a\u00a0<em>Xena: Warrior Princess\u00a0<\/em>episode.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saw\u00a0John Carter\u00a0last night, in 3D on an IMax screen.
