In addtion to it\u2019s other amazing properties, including being good for the roses,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gas2.org\/2008\/12\/04\/americas-addiction-fuels-desire-for-coffee-ground-biodiesel\/\">the grounds can be used to produce biofuel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0estimates are the coffee ground biodiesel industry could generate as much as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pubs.acs.org\/doi\/suppl\/10.1021\/jf802487s\/suppl_file\/jf802487s_si_001.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">$8,000,000 in profits<\/a> annually using waste from Starbucks stores here in the United States \u00a0alone. \u00a0Ok, probably less given falling crude oil prices, but I\u2019m still a big fan of any domestic fuel souces.<\/p>\n<p>To add to the overall awesomeness of coffee,\u00a0at the end of the biodiesel extraction and conversion process, the leftover grounds can be turned into\u00a0fuel\u00a0pellets for wood stoves and boilers.<\/p>\n<p>Not only does coffee keep you moving, it can keep your car moving and heats your home!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/urbintechnology.com\/2008\/12\/08\/biofuel-from-coffee-grounds\/\">Originally posted at Urbin Technology<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Update<\/strong>: Crude prices have reversed the downward trend that was in place when this article was first posted (December 2008). \u00a0They are now pushing $100 a barrel and don&#8217;t show any signs of slowing down. \u00a0Starbucks brand biofuel made right here in the USA is starting to look like a good business opportunity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amazing stuff coffee.
