Yesterday was Constitution Day, so here are some observations on that document.<\/p>\n
First, Patrick Henry:<\/p>\n
“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government – lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Ayn Rand:<\/p>\n
“Today, when a concerted effort is made to obliterate this point, it cannot be repeated too often that the Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals\u2014that it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government\u2014that it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizens\u2019 protection against the government.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States of America:<\/p>\n
“The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) asserts that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
