June 11, 1964, Senate democrats filibustered the Civil Rights Acts

Monday, June 11th, 2012

An important historical fact to remember, congressional democrats opposed the Civil Rights Act.

Senate democrats filibustered the Civil Rights act for 57 working days, which included a speech  by democrat Senator Robert Byrd against the bill that lasted fourteen straight hours.  Byrd’s opposition was not surprising, since the late Senator got his start in politics as a recruiter for the Ku Klux Klan.

The filibuster was finally ended when the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Everett McKinley Dirksen, a Republican from Illinois, pushed for a closure vote in a speech that called for the democrats to end their filibuster and accept racial equality.

The Civil Rights Act was finally voted on, and passed with a majority of Republicans and minority of democrats voting for it.

Senate Democrats still shirking their duty

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Andrew Stiles writes:

Senate Democrats are poised to continue their impressive streak of budgetary negligence on Wednesday by unanimously rejecting as many as five different budgets, including the one offered by President Obama. Republicans, meanwhile, are hoping that voters will pick up on the disturbing trend.

The Democratic-led Senate has not formally proposed a federal budget resolution in more than three years, and is not expected to offer one Wednesday. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) and Budget Committee chairman Kent Conrad (D., N.D.) have made explicitly clear that they have no intention of doing so before the November election.

Not only have the congressional democrats not proposed any budgets in the past three years, they have voted against every budget proposal brought before Congress, including budgets proposed by the leader of their party, our own Dear Leader, Barack Obama.

Could it be that the congressional democrats don’t want their agenda documented in way that easily accessible by the American people?

Marty Lamb is running for the 3rd Congressional seat in Massachusetts

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

Marty Lamb

Marty Lamb is a Republican running for the 3rd Congressional seat in Massachusetts.  He had his kick off meeting in Westborough, MA on March 26, 2010.   There was a very good turnout of supporters.

Marty, unlike our current congressman, is not a career politician and has actually worked in the private sector.  He has a lot of support from the local Tea Party movement and believes that “government’s primary role is to preserve, protect and defend your God-given gift of freedom, not to micromanage your life.”

Update: I have some of my photographs from the event posted.  Some of the other local bloggers who attended were RightWing Granny and Angel Fleming. Christen Varley of the Greater Boston Tea Party introduced Marty at the event.

Update: Marty Lamb has a very different view of the government takeover of the American Health Care system than the incumbent democrat, James McGovern.

Quote of the Day

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

“You can’t even dignify this squalid racket as bribery: If I try to buy a cop, I have to use my own money. But, when Harry Reid buys a senator, he uses my money, too. It doesn’t ‘border on immoral’: it drives straight through the frontier post and heads for the dark heartland of immoral.” — Mark Steyn

Pelosi losing her iron grip on House democrats?

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

It appears so, Politico reports that freshman democrat congressman Parker Griffith of Alabama is leaving the democrat party and join the Republicans.

Griffith, a medical doctor, is no fan of ObamaCare it seems.

A radiation oncologist who founded a cancer treatment center, Griffith plans to blast the Democratic health care bill as a prime reason for his decision to switch parties—and is expected to cite his medical background as his authority on the subject.

Your Tax Dollars at Work

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Here is a glimpse of how members of Congress travel on your dime.

Besides rooms for sleeping, the 12 members of the House of Representatives rented their hotel’s fireplace-equipped presidential suite and two adjacent rooms. The hotel cleared out the beds and in their place set up a bar, a snack room and office space. The three extra rooms — stocked with liquor, Coors beer, chips and salsa, sandwiches, Mrs. Fields cookies and York Peppermint Patties — cost a total of about $1,500 a night. They were rented for five nights.

While in Scotland, the House members toured historic buildings. Some shopped for Scotch whisky and visited the hotel spa. They capped the trip with a dinner at one of the region’s finest restaurants, paid for by the legislators, who got $118 daily stipends for meals and incidentals.

The tour provides a glimpse of the mixture of business and pleasure involved in legislators’ overseas trips, which are growing in number and mostly financed by the taxpayer. Lawmakers travel with military liaisons who carry luggage, help them through customs, escort them on sightseeing trips and stock their hotel rooms with food and liquor. Typically, spouses come along, flying free on jets operated by the Air Force. Legislative aides come too. On the ground, all travel in chauffeured vehicles.

The cost they reported for such travel abroad was $13 million in 2008, a 70% jump from 2005, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of travel records. Lawmakers don’t have to report the cost of domestic travel when the government pays. The $13 million didn’t include the expense of flying on Air Force planes, which lawmakers don’t have to disclose.

Oh there is more, much more. Go read the whole thing. There is no Recession in the democrat controlled Congress.

House democrats don’t want the American People to know what they are doing.

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Ed Morrissey has the story on how the House democrats blocked the House Republican’s attempt to show the American People the truth about the so-called “Health Care” scam the democrats and our Dear Leader are trying to ram down the throats of the American People before they can see what effect it will have on them.

Why are the democrats afraid of the American People knowing the truth? What are they trying to hide?

“Hiding the truth about wildly unpopular policies is a Democrat specialty,” said one GOP aide. “I’d like to see the flow chart on how Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi plans on implementing the open and transparent government she keeps promising everyone.”

Indeed.
